Through the optical phenomenon, a perfect glass beads reflects the light coming from vehicle headlights to the driver.
This is called retroflection. The road markings, owe their night visibility to the glass beads. At night, even in wet conditions glass beads make a horizontal marking visible by retroflection principle through its round shape and glass structure.
Glass Beads can be added to the marking product at 2 stages.
- Sprinkled on the road marking at the application to the road: “Drop-on bead”
- Mixed in the road marking at the manufacture stage: “Premix glass beads”
Glass Beads are round, colourless transparent glass particles in very small dimensions which occur as a result of glass process in high temperatures. The quality of gas beads is determined by roundness, granulometry and refractive index.
